
Each year, friends & family of Junior Achievement join together to help raise funds for JA programs by taking part in the annual Bowl-A-Thon. The money raised through last year’s event helped JA reach nearly 1,200 young people with business and economic education programs.
So, what is a Bowl a Thon? The BAT is a great way for people to have a fun while helping JA achieve its mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Bowl a Thon teams of five raise money from friends, family, coworkers, vendors and customers, or through company matching funds to reach fundraising goals. These teams will come out to the bowling center to bowl two games, have a chance to win door prizes, and have a great time! Prizes are awarded for reaching fundraising goals.
This year, the Triangle Bowl a Thon takes place September 18 & 19, October 8, and November 7 (more info below). Teams will gather for two hours at a bowling center to enjoy bowling, door prizes & fun. Thank you for joining us in our effort to make this year’s Bowl-A-Thon the best ever!

The IIA, ISACA, and NCACPA are competing to create teams of five to raise money from friends, family, coworkers, vendors and customers, or through company matching funds to reach fundraising goals. · What is a Bowl a Thon?
The Bowl a Thon benefitting Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina is a fun and exciting event designed to raise money for JA programs while giving participants to a chance to have a great time. Teams of bowlers come to the bowling center to bowl two games, win door prizes, and have a great time. They also raise money for JA through friends, family, or workplace activities and can earn prizes for reaching fundraising goals.
· When and where is the Bowl a Thon?
Bowl a Thon events are held on different days and locations. The main event is held at the South Hills AMF in
· How much money is each team expected to raise?
Each team is asked to raise $500 ($100 per bowler). Raising $100 per bowler or $500 per team will qualify you for an award. There are other incentives to raise additional money, for example: the top overall individual fundraiser will win a $500 gift certificate.
· How do teams raise money?
Bowlers raise money by asking their friends, family, vendors and coworkers to make a pledge. A great way for a team to meet its goal is to work together and be creative. Recent successful teams have set up candy shops, sold pizza by the slice, or held raffles. Companies can help meet their goal by having a JA Day to sell dress down days. (The staff at Junior Achievement can help with creative ideas.)
· How many bowlers make up a team?
A team consists of a five bowlers. One bowler represents the team as Team Captain.
· How much are the registration fees?
Registration fees are $10 per bowler ($50 per team) which entitles each bowler to a 2009-10 Bowl-A-Thon 2 games of bowling, rental shoes, a goody bag, and a chance to win door prizes at the event. If a bowler reaches the $100 fundraising goal, or if a team reaches the $500 team goal, the registration fees are waived!
· Who pays the registration fees?
That is up to the company or group. Some companies have the bowlers raise the registration fee or pay it themselves and other companies pay the registration fees for all of their bowlers. If a bowler reaches the $100 fundraising goal, or if a team reaches the $500 team goal, the registration fees are waived!
· Are contributions tax-deductible?
YES! All participants will receive forms for donors to keep track of their tax-deductible donation and online donations receive an email receipt.
· How long does it take to bowl?
It takes a team nearly two hours to bowl the two games. With announcements, it takes about 2 and one half hours for an entire Bowl a Thon session. Most companies have all of their bowlers participating at the same time, but it is not required. It is the responsibility of the Company Coordinator to arrange the bowling schedule with JA.
